Further delay in A380 deliveries

14 May 2008

Airbus announced for the fourth time a further delay in deliveries of the A380 risking more penalties with unhappy airlines.  The main reason is the two year delay in the production and installation of the wiring systems on the superjumbo.  The manufacturer is planning for 12 instead of 13 deliveries in 2008 and 21 instead of 25 in 2009.
Emirates, the biggest customer of the A380, is in talks with Airbus trying to establish what will happen with the deliveries of its A380s this year.  5 of the 58 ordered aircraft are expected to be delivered before the end of March 2009.

4 A380s have been delivered to Singapore Airlines, the only airline that currently operates them.
