Less shipments for General Aviation in 1Q08

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced the shipment and billings figures for the first quarter of 2008. Compared to 1Q07, total industry billings were up 16.1% to $5.3b, an all-time high for the first quarter. However, total shipments were down by 7.5% with 781 aircraft in 1Q08.
Piston-powered airplane shipments fell 28% from 554 in 1Q07 to 399 in 1Q08. Turboprop shipments increased from 79 aircraft in 1Q07 to 85 in 1Q08. Business jet deliveries had a significant increase of 40.8% with 297 units delivered in 1Q08 compared to 211 in 1Q07.
