Name an airline: The results

10 May 2008

JetBlue founder David Neeleman announced that he has named his new Brazilian domestic airline Azul which means Blue in Portuguese.
Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras, SA plans to commence service in January 2009 and has ordered a fleet of 76 E195s. The new airline plans to bypass congested hubs offering point-to-point service with lower prices.  All the aircraft will be equipped with 118 leather seats and Live TV broadcast.
A contest was announced on a website last year asking the Brazilian public to name the airline.  108,348 people participated with more than 157,000 entries but only 10 names made it to the final selection process.  There was a difficult choice to make between Azul and Samba.  The rule was that the first person who entered the winning name would receive two lifetime passes for free travel. The first 1,000 people to enter the winning airline name would receive two free tickets to any destination the airline serves. Free tickets were awarded to the people who entered both names.
