Embraer eyes $1-b biz in India
EMBRAER, the world’s third-largest aircraft maker, expects to generate $1-billion by selling executive jets in India over the next 10 years. The Brazilian aircraft maker, which will deliver 40 orders in the next three to four years, is in talks with clients for new deals in the Indian market. It has been showcasing its new product, the Legacy 500, in Mumbai.
“Unlike last year, there has been interest in new sales. But we expect by 2012-2013 markets will rebound completely and reach the levels of 2006, when sales for executive jets were very high,” said Jose Eduardo Costas, vice president, marketing and sales, Embraer executive jets.
Embraer’s largest order in the Asian region is from India with 20 light and entry level jets worth $90 million (Rs 405 crore). A telecom start up company, Invision, has ordered 18 entry level jets— Phenom 100s— and two light executive jets— Phenom 300s— to launch its proposed air taxi services. The first of the entry level jet will be delivered in August to Invision, Embraer said.
“Despite the crisis, Asia Pacific region has grown by 12% in 2009. We expect 40-50% business of the 1050 jets on order over the next 10 years to come from this region,” said Capt Manfred Baudzus, regional sales director, executive jets. Embraer forecasts that the Asia Pacific region will account for a total of 11.8% of the global business for the aircraft manufacturer.
