Heathrow T5 chaos
30 March 2008
London's Heathrow' Terminal 5 opened to much fanfare on 27 March, 2008. The state of the art, Richard Rogers designed terminal, promised to propel the heavily criticised and creaking Heathrow airport into the 21sr Century. The new terminal offers everything it would seem, except the opportunity to reach your destination with your luggage.
In fact, few of the passengers who tried to fly out of T5 on its opening day made it past check in. 28,000 bags went missing, lifts and escaltors were non operable, staff got lost and the whole process was a shambles. As BA tried to put a brave face on the fiasco and BAA, the terminal owners, blamed everyone else, the one overwhelming conclusion is why bother with Heathrow at all? For anyone who values their time, general wellbeing and sanity, the air taxi is the obvious choice.
