Branson critical of hike in APD

17 July 2009

Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin, has criticised UK Government plans to increase air passenger duty (APD). This would effectively see APD for a popular route, such as London to Dubai, increase from GBP40 to GBP60. In a statement Branson said, "UK Government has been quietly increasing APD by huge amounts and claiming it is an environmental tax, yet there's not a shred of evidence to suggest the GBP2billion plus currently raised is going towards environmental or sustainable projects."
