Boeing's forecast for new jets
22 November 2007
Boeing predicts that around 6,670 new aircraft worth $660 billion will be required by European airlines over the next 20 years. Europe's fleet will be around 7,660 aircraft by 2026. Most of the deliveries will be for single-aisle aircraft (4,630). The rest of the orders will be for 1,360 twin-aisle aircraft and 230 for the 747 or larger size category.
The German market will continue to grow and carriers will require 620 single-aisle aircraft worth $43 billion and 170 twin-aisle jets worth $34 billion. In addition, it is predicted that approximately 70 aircraft (747 or larger) worth $20 billion will also be delivered. By 2026, approximately 90% of the German airlines fleet will comprise new-technology aircraft resulting in reduced emissions and noise.
Boeing is forecasting that around 28,600 new commercial aircraft (passenger and cargo) will be required by airlines globally over the next 20 years:
- 3,700 regional jets (below 90 seats)
- 17,650 single-aisle jets (90-240 seats)
- 6,290 twin-aisle jets (200-400 seats)
- 960 aircraft 747-size or larger (more than 400 seats)
