FAA rolls out new ATC system

After years in the making the FAA announced on Monday it was ready to deploy a nationwide ATC system that tracks aircraft by satelite, instead of radar.

This is part of the FAA's ambitious programme to overhaul the US air traffic control system.  The new sytem allows pilots to access the same information as ATC, and is said to reduce the risk of mid air collisions and weather related incidents.
