MIU Team
Chairman - Alan Perry
Alan Perry graduated from University in 1975. After a brief spell working for a publishing company in London, he moved overseas and worked initially in Bahrain and then the USA. In the US he trained and qualified as an air charter pilot operating out of San Francisco, flying a variety of turboprops, floats and twins. In 1982 he returned to the UK and joined the London advertising agency , MSA&L. In November, 1984 he co-founded the maritime industry journal, Port Development International (PDI) and later the PDI Conference and Exhibition group. The company developed over 15 years, through a mixture of organic growth and acquisition, to become the market leader in it's sector and, following a brief earn out period, was sold to Euromoney Plc in 1999. Following a one year break for restrictive covenants, Perry founded MIU Events in April 2000. Here, he returned to his earlier interest in aviation and runs a series of events geared to business aviation issues and is now able to combine his considerable knowledge of event management with his lifelong passion for flying.
In 2007 he was heavily involved in setting up the Air Taxi Association in Europe, a collective of like-minded air taxi businesses and interests. He served in an honorary role as the Managing Director of the association during its inaugural year. In late 2009 he joined with Dagmar Grossmann, CEO of Grossmann Jet Service and founder of CEPA (Central Europe Private Aviation Association), to initiate the CEPA conference, an event dedicated to the consolidation and expansion of private aviation in Central and Eastern Europe. The event will be expanded to include an international business aviation Expo for 2011.
Perry is an experienced and active aviator and has additional business interests on the operations side of the industry and in aircraft sales. He is a big believer in innovation in aviation and has been involved in various ground breaking initiatives and ventures and has also worked on solar powered aircraft. His favourite maxim is, "If you don't ask, you don't get!"
