International Air Taxi Convention (IATC) 2009
Start Date: 25 February 2009
End Date: 26 February 2009
Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Point to point on demand air taxi services are now fully established. The joy of avoiding the big air passenger hubs and spending more time doing business, rather than travelling to and from the airport, getting wedged in security and waiting in airport lounges, is becoming a reality for an increasing number of business travellers.
As air taxi start ups in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America join their American counterparts in providing business jet services at business class air fares, the 2nd International Air Taxi Convention (IATC) meets again in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to consider the next steps forward for this dynamic industry.
What have we learnt from the last couple of years of flight ops and what can the new start ups expect as some of the developed economies start to feel the full force of the sub prime lending fiasco? Will 2009 be the year when the air taxi prospers or flounders?
Well, the price of a barrel of oil is seriously undermining many air taxi business models and the environmental lobby is concerned that an aircraft carrying two/three passengers burns more fuel per person than one carrying 150 passengers. Businesses will also be looking to cut back non-essential travel and the scheduled carriers are using their considerable clout with Government and official aviation bodies to ensure life is not easy for the air taxi operator. Additionally, the VLJ manufacturers have had a few wobbles this past year.
However, history tells us that new ideas and innovation rarely manages a smooth ride. If you're in aviation, though, you have to know how to handle turbulence.
The industry meets to review progress to date, debate the issues of the moment and to file the flightplan for the next stage of the journey. The VLJ manufacturers are starting to fulfil the big orders to the air taxi operators and as operations start in earnest there is much to ponder. This is the dedicated meeting place for all those interested in, dealing with, or having a direct influence over the major issues facing the air taxi industry.
