Dubai World Central (DWC), at 140 sq kms, will be the largest airport (by landmass) in the world. The existing Dubai International airport will reach full operating capacity by 2018 - 2020 and DWC is being developed in order to cater for future requirements. On completion, DWC will be capable of handling 160 million airline passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo annually as Dubai consolidates its position as the premier global transit hub for scheduled passenger traffic and expands it's reach to accommodate the vast Asian and Pacific Rim growth markets.
General Aviation (GA) operations at Dubai International are already under strain with ramp space at a premium. Airport Director, Paul Griffiths, recently announced that GA would start moving to DWC over the next year with the intention that all GA ops would be based there from 2012 onwards. Dubai International will concentrate on scheduled airline passenger traffic and creating revenue streams to finance infrastructure developments at DWC.
General and Business Aviation will play a pivotal role at DWC and will have direct and indirect implications for the local community in terms of employment, value added services and the development of global GA industries. General Aviation in the Middle East (GAME) 2012 will be an opportunity for all stakeholders to participate in the debate as to how the GA function at DWC should be developed. Owners/operators, OEMs, MROs, FBOs, fuel suppliers, brokers, industry associations, pilot groups, the IT and knowledge based sectors, aviation lawyers, insurers, registration specialists, asset management specialists, VIP handling companies and all the associated support and service sectors will have a chance to engage with Dubai World Central and help determine the structure and composition of the GA facility at this vast complex.
