Very Light Jets - Middle East (Flying Light, Business Class) 2008

9- 10 March 2008- Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort & Towers, Dubai U.A.E

The Middle East s the fastest growing aviation market in the world. In 2008 Dubai will open the Al Maktoum international airport complex and the new terminal is set to handle 120 million passengers, this in addition to Dubai Airport's existing 70 million capacity, suggesting that Dubai as a hub is projected to handle up to 190 million passengers per annum. This compares to the world's busiest hub, London with 135 million passengers, but spread over several airports and the world's busiest single airport, Atlanta - Hartsfield - Jackson, handling 85 million passengers.

Commercial airlines in the Middle East will purchase an additional 1000 aircraft over the next 20 years to serve this market and the business aviation sector anticipates its fleet will double to 600 aircraft within five years.

The opening of Al Maktoum airport will provide greater scope for the business aviation market and air taxi operators. The arrival of the VLJ (Very Light Jet) will make up a significant proportion of new business aircraft sales to the region and also offers the prospect of bringing more Gulf airports into the equation as point to point air taxi operations become more commonplace.

With the most popular destinations from Dubai within range of the VLJ, air taxi operators are faced with the odd conundrum! Which air taxi model will work best in the Gulf States? How does the VLJ fit with existing fleets? Will the VLJ provide the standard of comfort and expectation required for this market? Will security be properly addressed? How can e-commerce be harnessed to best effect and will the necessary aviation infrastructure be in place by the time the VLJ comes on stream?
