FIRST A320 DELIVERED TO WATANIYA
Wataniya Airways has received its first leased A320 aircraft. A total of seven leased A320s will be delivered to the Kuwaiti airline.
AIR NEW ZEALAND SIGNS LEASING AGREEMENT WITH DAE CAPITAL
Air New Zealand and DAE Capital signed a leasing contract for two Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft.
INDIGO LEASES A320
Indigo Airlines, an Indian domestic low cost airline, will acquire six A320s on lease. The first aircraft will be delivered by February 2009.
ISLAMIC FINANCE FOR ETIHAD
Al Hilal Bank arranged for the $110m aircraft financing facility for Etihad Airways and the delivery of the airline's latest A340-600 aircraft. The Abu Dhabi based airline was provided with a Shariah-compliant $110m aircraft financing facility, comprised of a 12-year lease for the purchase of its aircraft.
AMERICAN AIRLINES ANNOUNCES RESULTS
AMR Corp (American Airlines) reported a net loss of $340m for the fourth quarter of 2008 versus $69m loss in the same quarter of 2007 and a $2.1b net loss for 2008 versus a $504m profit in 2007.
NET LOSSES FOR UNITED AIRLINES
UAL Corp (United Airlines) reported a net loss of $1.3b for the fourth quarter of 2008 versus a $53m loss in the same period of 2007, and a $5.3b net loss for 2008 versus a $403m profit in 2007.
SOUTHWEST REPORTS LOSSES
Southwest has reported a net loss of $56m for the fourth quarter of 2008 versus $111m profit in the same period of 2007. It also announced that it has revised its Boeing 737-700 delivery schedule from 22 (16 firm/six options) to 10 firm in 2010, from 32 (13/19) to 20 (10/10) in 2011, from 40 (13/27) to 23 (13/10) in 2012, from 20 (19/1) to 23 (19/4) in 2013, from 18 (10/8) to 20 (13/7) in 2014, from 17 (11/6) to 17 (14/3) in 2015, and from four firm to 23 (12/11) in 2016; 17 remaining options were pushed back to 2017.
SINGAPORE AIRLINES RECEIVED NEW AIRCRAFT
Singapore Airlines has taken delivery of its first of 19 new leased A330-300s with Trent 700s to serve as interim capacity until delivery of A350s and 787s takes place.
NEW AIRPORT IN SAUDI ARABIA
The airport being constructed in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia, at a cost of SAR143 million, will become operational in 2010. The project includes construction of a passenger lounge to accommodate 190 people per hour and a runway with a length of 3,050 meters and width of 60 meters.
NEW PARTNER FOR MRJ PROGRAMME
Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation has signed a contract with Taiwan’s Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet. AIDC will design and manufacture MRJ slats, flaps, belly fairings, rudders and elevators for the next-generation regional jet.
RECORD TURNOVER FOR ATR
ATR announced a record turnover of US$1.3b for 2008. It is an increase of around 140% in the last three years. There were orders for 42 new turboprops and options for 14 aircraft in 2008. Since the beginning of the program, ATR has sold 979 new aircraft (421 ATR 42s and 558 ATR 72s). ATR’s target for 2009 is a turnover of over US$1.4b.
ARAB WINGS SIGNS DEAL WITH CESSNA
Arab Wings has signed an agreement with Cessna Aircraft Company for the order of a new $17m Cessna Citation Sovereign. The aircraft will be delivered in the second half of 2009.
